HHDF Offers Dental Care at the Freeport ‘Stand-Down’
More than 300 veterans came to a “stand down” gathering at the Freeport Armory in Freeport New York, on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, seeking various forms of assistance, from free health and dental services, and the camaraderie of men and women who also had shared military life. The Nassau County Veterans Service Agency organized the event which featured some two dozen government and nonprofit provider agencies, including the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, United Veterans Beacon House, the New York Department of Labor and even a volunteer dentist. (The Nassau County Veterans Service Agency on Tuesday held its 25th annual Veterans Stand Down event.
While the Helping Hands Dental Foundation (HHDF) offered free dental care to the veterans in attendance, other providers at the event in Freeport provided free food, clothing, haircuts, medical screenings and counseling to veterans in need.
